Bubble's, Bodas, Banks and B.O.

Today was our first day exploring Kampala. Hot, hot Kampala. We went to the "Super Supermarket" (that is the real name) to pick up some essentials (Coca Cola Lite) before heading to Cafe Pap for some lunch and internet usage. Unfortunately, the food outing was more successful than the internet outing, and it took going to several more internet locations before we were finally able to get online. We also went to several banks today (9 or 10) which not only close their branches on Saturday's but also close their ATM's.

After touring the city via ATM's, we stopped at the Sheraton for a Coca Cola lite, which tasted better than any other Coca Cola Lite. Ever. From the Sheraton, destiny brough us to Bubble's O'Leary. Bubble's not only has free wireless, but is situated in a garden oasis away from the busy streets, plays rugby games (Jess insisted on including this) and has a bartender named Paul. When we decided to venture back to Mr. T's from Bubble's, we opted for the local cab route -- Boda Boda's. Actually, Jess insisted on risking our lives to save 4000 Uganda Shillings (aka $2). We piled onto 3 of these Boda's, or motorbikes to weave back through traffic to get to our apartment.

We have learned several lessons on our first day in Kampala:
1. Being told to 'Try Again' with the internet does not mean it will work this time, it will only distract you from bothering the waiter until next time he comes around
2. Food in Uganda always takes at least 45 minutes to prepare. Everything is made SPECIALLY for you.
3. Make sure that the CFO has a bank to get money out for the team
4. Ugandan roach spray is much more poisonous than American roach spray. One spritz and the bug evaporates
5. The Sheraton has a special breeze that only reaches the Sheraton. No matter how hot a day, the Sheraton will have a breeze, and no other place in Kampala will.
6. Boda's seats magically grow when more than 2 people attempt to get on
7. Don't attempt to get on a Boda with a short skirt and flip flops
8. Only Ugandans know how to dial cell phones in Uganda
9. Whitney's feet (Pig Pen) have more dirt on them they everybody else's combined
10. Uganda has an abnormally large amount of man eating birds, and no guide book thought to warn us about them. One bird tried to peck Courtney's eye out, but we beat him off with Jeanah's fanny pack
